Harold W. "Hal" Massie, Class of '76

At Baker, I was in ROTC, and on the tennis team, cross country team, and rifle team. I enjoyed the friendships, the craziness and all of the English department teachers! All of the memories are wonderful...well...mostly... After Baker, I spent four years in the United States Air Force (1978 -1982). I received an AA in 1981 from Okaloosa-Walton Jr. College, Niceville, Fl and a BSA in 1984 from the University of Georgia (Go Dogs!) I'm Married to Marie (former Marie Williams, also Baker class of '76) since June, 1983 (22 years!!!), no children. I work as a Civilian Technician (J-STARS avionics) for the Georgia Air National Guard, currently at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Ga. I am the garden columnist for the Macon Telegraph and write the backpage column for Georgia Gardening Magazine (go out and buy a copy, now). I am a Master Gardener (gardening is my life), and member of the Georgia Botanical Society, American Rhododendron Society, North American Butterfly Association, and other horticultural/botanical organizations. I volunteer at Callaway Gardens, for the Georgia State Park system, and with the Georgia Master Gardener Association. I serve on the board of directors for the Georgia Botanical Society and the Executive Committee for the Waddell Barnes Botanical Gardens at Macon State College. It is my intent to stay career Civil Service. I'm looking forward to retiring in a few years and working with a botanical garden or nature center somewhere. I'd like to do some graduate work in botany or horticulture. My hobbies include gardening, birding, hiking, canoeing and writing.
